Hexham Spooktacular gaining momentum in time for Halloween

Spooky happenings in Hexham have already begun as shops and businesses throughout the town transform their windows into the weird and scary as they compete for the title of best-dressed window for Halloween. Take a trip around the historic streets and marvel at the transformations, and remember to look out for three golden snitches that will be hidden in three of the windows to win tickets to see the new Harry Potter film. As half term arrives why not turn to your artistic side and design your pumpkin to be in with a chance to win the best-carved pumpkin competition – and don’t forget to put those finishing touches to your fancy dress costume! On Saturday, October 29, the Hexham Spooktacular fun starts from 11am with mask and puppet making at The Old Gaol, and from midday – and new to the event this year – Skeletons at the Abbey, a chance to discover the origins of Halloween and see skeletons dancing in our historic Abbey and then the chance to make your own! As always from 3pm to 9pm there’ll be frights, food and ghastly fun for the whole family: prepare to be met by zombies, werewolves, witches, wizards and the cutest of pumpkins as families flock to the town with all generations adorning their fancy dress costumes and for the first time this year look out for scary hounds, as pets have a chance to take part in their very own fancy dress competition! Little ones can get their faces painted in the Forum Cinema from 3pm until 7pm, kindly run by Hexham Youth Initiative. The bandstand area will be centre stage from 4pm with a spooky performance by Youth Dance Tynedale followed by the ever popular fancy dress competitions, this year with the addition of a Pets category!
