Driver dies in early morning crash on the A69 near Hexham

A driver has died in a crash on the A69 after the car they were driving flipped on the road near Hexham . Police are now appealing to trace a second vehicle that may have been involved. Ambulance crews discovered the overturned car at approximately 1am this morning, on the road between Hexham and Corbridge, but were unable to save the driver’s life. The crash happened one mile east of the Bridge End Roundabout at Hexham and police say another vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene, may have been involved. The A69 was shut for almost nine hours while the emergency services treated the driver, cleared the wreckage and investigated the scene. Northumbria Police are now appealing for witnesses to the fatal crash. A police spokeswoman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the A69 in Northumberland. “Emergency services attended the scene. They found the vehicle, a car, had been travelling on the eastbound carriageway, when for reasons yet to be established the car has rolled over in the carriageway and the driver sadly was declared dead at the scene. “It is believed that a second vehicle may have been involved in this collision which failed to stop at the scene and officers would like to speak with the occupants of this vehicle.
