Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko: Eddie Hearn explains why title fight could be off

The trials and tribulations of Tyson Fury have unsettled scores of fighters in the heavyweight division, with a host of candidates jostling for the opportunity to fight for the now-vacant WBA and WBO titles. And now it appears that the ripples caused by Fury’s shock demise have derailed negotiations between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko.Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said: “I think he [Klitschko] might be looking for an easier fight for the WBA title.“He’s in a position where I don’t think he really needs the money. The biggest fight out there for him financially right now is Anthony Joshua, but what difference does £5 million make between him fighting Joshua or Lucas Browne or [Alexander] Ustinov? ON THE ROPES: Joshua’s proposed fight against Klitschko has hit the rocks Hearn, 37, claimed the fight was all but confirmed before the Ukrainian had an apparent change of heart.“We spent two, nearly three weeks, negotiating that contract to a stage where everything was done, everything was overcome.“But now, we’ve gone back to them and said ‘look we’re happy, same deal, just the IBF belt’ but they wanna fight for the WBA world title.”It had been reported that the initial fight between Klitschko and Joshua would be for Joshua’s IBF world title, although after Fury vacated the WBA belt last week, Klitschko made it clear that he wanted a chance to regain the title he lost against Fury last November.
