SG/GETTYOasis turned down performing on the Trainspotting soundtrack for a hilarious reasonDanny Boyle’s film about a group of Scottish drug addicts has been a cult classic since its release in 1996.Many fans feel the much-loved performances by the likes of Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle were equally matched by the movie’s soundtrack.Featuring songs from bands including Blur, Pulp, Iggy Pop and New Order, the album was so popular that a second compilation of music from the film was released.However of all the major Brit pop acts of the time, it was only the Gallaghers who turned down the opportunity to appear on the successful record.GETTYThe band turned it down because they thought the film was about trainspottingIt turns out Oasis actually rejected the chance to be part of one of the greatest British films of all time because they thought the plot was about the activity of trainspotting.The reveal was made by the film’s producer Andrew Macdonald and costume designer Rachel Fleming, as reported in a Q A with The Telegraph.MacDonald said: “Danny [Boyle] is from near Manchester and he was very keen to have Noel Gallagher do something, but there was a reason why he didn’t do it.“He came to the launch party in Cannes, but I don’t know why he didn’t do a piece of music.” Fleming added: “I met Noel at a thing the other week and he said to me: ‘I would have done something, but honestly I thought it was about train spotters. I didn’t know.’ That’s what he actually said.”MacDonald is also producing the highly anticipated Trainspotting 2 , which has already released its teaser trailer.The producer revealed: “It’s 20 years later and they have all moved on.
