Percentage of US corn crop in good-excellent condition up this week: USDA

Around 74% of the 2016-17 US corn crop was in good or excellent condition in the week ended October 16, 1 percentage point above the prior week, US Department of Agriculture data showed.In the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service crop progress report, 54% of the corn crop was in good condition and 20% was in excellent condition.The good/excellent condition share was 6 percentage points higher than the year-ago figure.Of the rest of the crop, 19% was in fair condition, 5% in poor condition and 2% in very poor condition.USDA said 46% of the corn has been harvested as of October 16, compared with the five-year average of 49% and the year-ago pace of 54%, while 97% had reached the mature stage, compared with the five-year a…
