Ghosn to also head Mitsubishi: report

Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn would become chairman of Mitsubishi Motors soon, Japan’s leading business daily “Nikkei” reported Wednesday. It said Ghosn would be officially appointed after a board meeting later this year. The report came months after Nissan announced a major investment in its scandal-hit rival. Nissan threw Mitsubishi a lifeline in May when it announced plans to buy a one-third stake in its domestic rival for about $2.2 billion as the smaller competitor wrestled with a mileage-cheating scandal that hammered sales. The reported appointment would make Ghosn the head of three major auto makers, including France’s Renault, which holds a major stake in Nissan.
