As Ordinary Lies returns for a second series, Jill Halfpenny talks about her role in the BBC1 drama

Ordinary Lies is back on our screens tonight and Geordie actress Jill Halfpenny has a starring role. As fans of the first series will know, the premise is that each episodes focuses on one character from a group of colleagues. While its first run explored the lives – and secrets – of a group of employees at a car show room, the new run will let viewers into the stories of a pool of workers at a sports sale company called Coopers. Although the first episode is technically head of sales manager ‘Joe’s story’, it’s fair to say Jill’s character is at the centre of the action too. As a once happy couple, the episode finds them struggling to come to terms with the abuse their daughter suffered at the hands of a gymnastics coach.
